Environmental Awareness
Current Environmental Issues:
Deforestation:
"Deforestation is the permanent removal of trees to make room for something besides forest." Deforestation is an extremely important issue happening worldwide. Forests cover about 40% of land across the globe, but due to the need of fulfilling purposes like the production of certain products (such as beef, palm oil...) and intense agriculture, lots of forests and trees are being cut down. This not only puts about 80% of biodiversity in danger, but it also has negative effects on the environment.
We can attempt to overcome this issue by limiting the use of paper, and planting trees! Thus, we can all take a step towards a better and greener future by planting (or gardening)!

Ocean Acidification:
Ocean Acidification, which is caused by the absorption of carbon dioxide, refers to the decreasing pH levels of the ocean. This process decreases the ability of some fish to detect their predators, causing an imbalance in the food chain. Acidification also threatens the lives of corals, thus harming shorelines and decreasing tourism. To help combat this issue, one can preserve forests, recycle waste, and cut down on their fossil fuel usage.

Global Warming:
Global warming is the heating of the Earth's surface, oceans and atmosphere. The heating is caused by human activity, primarily the burning of fossil fuels that pump carbon dioxide (CO2), methane and other greenhouse gases into the atmosphere. To help with global warming, you can install solar panels so you get all the energy you need for electricity from the sun. Another thing you can do is get an electric cars. These two are some ways to prevent global warming but there are more ways to prevent it.

Water Pollution:
Water pollution is the contamination of water bodies, usually as a result of human activities. When you say water bodies it means, lakes rivers, oceans, aquifers and groundwater. Water pollution happens when contaminants are introduced into the natural environment. This is bad for the organisms in the ocean and for people. Humans drink water and I don’t think we want to drink or even bath in polluted water. We are at a point where we can’t rid of water pollution but we can do something to reduce water pollution. One thing you can do is not flush any drugs or medicine down the toilet because this causes the water to have a chemical pollution. Other things you can do are, not flush toilet paper in the toilet, don’t pour fat from cooking or any other type of fat, oil, or grease down the sink. Keep a “fat jar” under the sink to collect the fat and discard in the solid waste when full, and there are many things you can do to reduce water pollution. Check out this link and read about how to reduce water pollution!
